Fire detection and emergency lighting engineers, ADS Group
The core documents
Most requests come down to the same short list. If these are current and in one place, an inspection is a straightforward conversation.
- Fire detection and alarm certification for the current period
- Service records for each service visit
- The fire alarm log book, with weekly test entries and any faults
- Emergency lighting function and duration test records
- Fire fighting equipment schedule and service certificates
- Commissioning and as-fitted documentation from installation
Where buildings usually fall short
The most common gaps are the weekly log book entries and the per-luminaire emergency lighting results. Both are in-house or visit-level records that are easy to let slip, and both are asked about.
Keeping it current
Ask your contractor to issue records after each visit rather than on request, and keep them in a single file. Where a contract is in place, that documentation should arrive as part of the service, not as an extra.
