Commercial CCTV Systems in Cork

ADS Group designs, installs and maintains HD IP CCTV systems for commercial premises across Cork city and county, with remote viewing, defined retention and GDPR-aware configuration. On industrial sites the system usually has to do two different jobs, perimeter overview and identification at specific points, and those are rarely the same camera.

What matters for Cork buildings

Overview and identification are different cameras

One camera covering a whole yard gives you an event but not a face. A camera at a door at the right height and distance gives you identification but sees nothing else. Trying to get both from one camera produces footage that proves something happened and nothing more, which is the most common complaint about existing systems.

Industrial lighting defeats poorly placed cameras

Sodium lighting, bright doorways against dark interiors and reflective surfaces all ruin footage. Camera position has to account for where the light is coming from, which usually means not pointing at it.

Workplace monitoring has extra obligations

Where CCTV covers areas employees work in, there are additional transparency obligations beyond general signage. Purpose, retention and access all need to be defined and communicated, not just configured.

What the visit includes

  • Site survey establishing what each camera is for: identification, recognition or overview
  • Camera and recorder specification accounting for lighting and backlight conditions
  • Installation, commissioning and focusing, with each view signed off against its purpose
  • Retention period set and documented, with GDPR signage and access control configured
  • Secure remote viewing with individual credentials
  • Scheduled maintenance, including lens cleaning, recording checks and firmware updates

Full detail on the system types, the standards and the certification process is on the CCTV & Video Surveillance page, and everything else we cover in the county is on the Cork page.

Frequently asked questions

Why is our existing footage unusable?
Usually because one camera is being asked to do two jobs. A wide view gives you the event, not the face, and identification needs a camera placed for that purpose at the right distance and height.
Are there extra rules where CCTV covers staff areas?
Yes. Monitoring areas where employees work carries additional transparency obligations: the purpose, the retention period and who can access footage all need to be defined and communicated.
How long can we keep footage?
Only as long as there is a justified purpose. Retention has to be set deliberately and documented rather than left at whatever the recorder defaults to.
