Commercial CCTV Systems in Galway

ADS Group designs, installs and maintains HD IP CCTV systems for commercial premises across Galway city and county, with remote viewing, defined retention and GDPR-aware configuration. In hospitality and student accommodation the design has to respect that some areas cannot be covered at all.

What matters for Galway buildings

Some areas cannot be covered, and that is the starting point

Bedrooms, bathrooms, changing areas and anywhere with a clear expectation of privacy are out of scope regardless of what has happened there. Designing around that constraint from the beginning avoids installing cameras that later have to be removed.

Coverage should follow incidents, not cover everything

A system that records everything produces hours of useless footage and a larger data protection obligation. Cameras positioned at entrances, tills, stores and problem areas produce usable evidence with far less exposure.

Exposed and coastal locations need suitable housings

Salt air and driven rain degrade housings, seals and lenses. Specifying for the exposure avoids a camera that is technically working and producing a view through a fogged dome.

What the visit includes

  • Site survey establishing what each camera is for, and which areas must not be covered
  • Camera and recorder specification accounting for lighting and exposure
  • Installation, commissioning and focusing, with each view signed off against its purpose
  • Retention period set and documented, with GDPR signage and access control configured
  • Secure remote viewing with individual credentials
  • Scheduled maintenance, including lens cleaning, recording checks and firmware updates

Full detail on the system types, the standards and the certification process is on the CCTV & Video Surveillance page, and everything else we cover in the county is on the Galway page.

Frequently asked questions

Can we put cameras in student accommodation corridors?
Common areas such as entrances and corridors can usually be covered with appropriate signage and a defined purpose. Bedrooms, bathrooms and changing areas cannot, regardless of what has happened there.
Should we cover the whole premises?
Generally no. Covering everything produces hours of useless footage and a larger data protection obligation. Cameras positioned at entrances, tills, stores and known problem areas produce better evidence with less exposure.
Do coastal sites need different cameras?
They need housings and seals specified for the exposure. Otherwise you end up with a working camera producing a view through a fogged or pitted dome.
