Commercial CCTV Systems in Dublin

ADS Group designs, installs and maintains HD IP CCTV systems for commercial premises across Dublin, with remote viewing, defined retention and GDPR-aware configuration. The point of a commercial system is evidence that stands up when you need it, which depends on camera placement, lighting and retention settings far more than on the headline resolution on the box.

What matters for Dublin buildings

Most failed CCTV is a placement problem

The usual complaint is that the system recorded the incident but the footage is useless. A camera pointed at a doorway with bright sky behind it produces a silhouette. A camera covering a whole yard produces a figure six pixels tall. We design around what each camera is for, which means identification at the door and overview in the yard, as two different cameras rather than one compromise.

Retention is a legal setting, not a storage setting

Under GDPR, footage is personal data and cannot be kept indefinitely just because the drive has room. Retention has to be justified and set, signage has to tell people recording is taking place, and access has to be controlled. We configure retention and access as part of commissioning and document what was set.

Dublin sites usually need remote viewing done properly

Remote access is standard, and it is also the most common weak point: default passwords, ports opened to the internet, logins shared around an office. We set up remote viewing with individual credentials and a secure connection rather than exposing the recorder directly.

What the visit includes

  • Site survey establishing what each camera is for: identification, recognition or overview
  • HD IP camera and recorder specification, with lighting and backlight conditions accounted for
  • Installation, commissioning and focusing, with each camera view signed off against its purpose
  • Retention period set and documented, with GDPR signage and access control configured
  • Secure remote viewing with individual credentials
  • Scheduled maintenance, including lens cleaning, recording checks and firmware updates

Full detail on the system types, the standards and the certification process is on the CCTV & Video Surveillance page, and everything else we cover in the county is on the Dublin page.

Frequently asked questions

How long can CCTV footage be kept?
Only as long as there is a justified purpose. Under GDPR, footage is personal data, so retention has to be set deliberately and documented rather than left at whatever the recorder defaults to. We agree a retention period with you at commissioning and configure it.
Do I need signage for CCTV in a commercial premises?
Yes. People have to be informed that recording is taking place, who is responsible and how to make a request. Signage is part of commissioning, not an optional extra.
Can CCTV be viewed remotely?
Yes, and it should be set up with individual credentials over a secure connection rather than by exposing the recorder to the internet. Shared logins and default passwords are the most common weakness we find on existing systems.
