Emergency Lighting Testing & Certification in Dublin

ADS Group designs, installs, tests and certifies emergency lighting to I.S. 3217 across Dublin. The standard requires a monthly functional test and an annual full-duration discharge test, normally three hours, proving every luminaire stays lit for the full period on battery alone. We carry out the annual test and certification, and we can set up the monthly regime so your own staff can run it correctly and log it.

What matters for Dublin buildings

The annual test is the one that finds the failures

A monthly flick test proves a luminaire comes on. It proves nothing about the battery. Batteries degrade quietly and fail under load, which is why the annual test runs the full rated duration. It is common for a building that passes every monthly test to fail a significant number of fittings on the three-hour test, and that is exactly what the test exists to catch.

Dublin fit-outs move the escape route

Office churn, partition changes and retail fit-outs move doors, corridors and exits without anyone revisiting the lighting design. Emergency lighting covers an escape route, not a floor plate, so once the route changes the coverage is wrong even though every fitting still works. We check the layout against the route in use.

Testing without closing the building

A three-hour discharge test leaves the building on battery, and in a trading premises that has to be planned. We schedule the annual test outside trading hours where the building needs it, and we stage it floor by floor on larger buildings rather than taking the whole site at once.

What the visit includes

  • Annual full-duration discharge test, normally three hours, on every luminaire
  • Monthly functional test regime set up, with a log your own staff can maintain
  • Every fitting identified and recorded, so a failure points to a location rather than a guess
  • Failed batteries, lamps and fittings reported in writing with a quotation for remedial work
  • Certification to I.S. 3217 on completion
  • Design and installation where coverage does not match the escape route in use

Frequently asked questions

How often does emergency lighting need to be tested?
I.S. 3217 sets a monthly functional test and an annual full-duration test, normally three hours. The monthly test can be done in-house if someone is trained and the results are logged. The annual test and certification is the one that needs a competent person.
Does the building have to close for the annual test?
No. The test can be scheduled outside trading hours, and on larger buildings it can be staged floor by floor so the whole site is never on battery at once.
What happens if fittings fail the test?
Failures are recorded by location and reported in writing with a quote for the remedial work. The certificate reflects the system as it stands, including anything outstanding, because a certificate that hides a failure is worth nothing at an inspection.
