Emergency Lighting Testing & Certification in Kildare

ADS Group tests, certifies, designs and installs emergency lighting to I.S. 3217 across Kildare, a short run from our Dublin 24 base. The standard requires a monthly functional test and an annual full-duration discharge test, normally three hours. In a distribution building the hard part is not the test, it is that the racking layout keeps changing the escape route.

What matters for Kildare buildings

Racking moves the escape route

In a warehouse the route to the exit is defined by the aisles, and the aisles are defined by racking that gets reconfigured as the operation changes. Emergency lighting fitted for the original layout can end up lighting the top of a rack rather than the aisle people would walk down.

Mounting height changes the light reaching the floor

The same fitting delivers far less illuminance at floor level from a warehouse roof than from an office ceiling. Coverage has to be calculated for the height, not assumed from a product datasheet.

New apartment developments arrive with no test history

A recently handed-over development usually has fittings that have never been discharge tested, and commissioning records that never reached the management company. The first annual test is where that becomes visible, and it is better to find it deliberately than at an insurance renewal.

What the visit includes

  • Annual full-duration discharge test, normally three hours, on every luminaire
  • Monthly functional test regime set up, with a log your own staff can maintain
  • Escape route reviewed against the current racking or partition layout
  • Illuminance considered against mounting height in high-bay areas
  • Failed batteries, lamps and fittings reported in writing with a quotation for remedial work
  • Certification to I.S. 3217 on completion

Frequently asked questions

We have reconfigured our racking. Does the emergency lighting need to change?
Very likely. Emergency lighting covers the escape route, and in a warehouse the route is defined by the aisles. Moving racking moves the route, so the coverage should be reviewed rather than assumed to still apply.
Our development is new. Does it still need an annual test?
Yes, from the first year. New fittings fail too, and a building with no test history has nothing to show an insurer or a fire officer.
Does the building have to close for the annual test?
No. It can be scheduled outside operating hours and, on larger buildings, staged by area so the whole site is never on battery at once.
